The Chakra Energy System: The Sixth Chakra

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

253_chakra_chart_-_ancientThroughout your body you have seven main energy centers called chakras that spin in a circular motion and are located along your spinal column up to the crown of your head. Each chakra radiates a different energy frequency of vibration, and is represented by a different color of the rainbow that resonates at that same level of vibration. Each chakra main center is connected to your being on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. On the physical level each chakra governs a main organ or gland, which is then connected to other body parts that resonate the same frequency. Your chakras are interdependent on each other for harmony and balance.

Medical science has proven that toxins, which include negative thoughts, poor food choices, chemicals and preservatives, lack of sleep, and various other forms of internal and external stress influence your body. These constant forms of “pollution” can cause your chakras to become imbalanced, which may eventually affect you on a physical level. When unbalanced, your chakras can be either too open or too closed. By understanding the chakra system and working to bring it into balance you’ll be able to help improve your own state of health and well being.

Understanding the Sixth Chakra: The Third Eye

The third eye is associated with your ability to know information without any concrete evidence. Some may call it a “hunch” or your intuition. How many times have we all said something like: “Something was telling me to (do such and such)”. This very thing happened to me yesterday, as a matter of fact. I was dropping off a movie at Blockbuster and as I was sliding the movie into the drop box, I thought to myself “I hope the video is actually in here and not still in my DVD player.” I ignored this feeling, went home later, pressed the “eject” button on my DVD player and out came the video. Next time I’ll listen!

The third eye is located above and between your eyebrows. On a physical level, this chakra governs your eyes, base of skull, and pituitary gland. Physical dysfunctions that can result from an unbalanced third eye include headaches, poor vision, neurological disturbances and glaucoma. Emotional problems include nightmares and learning difficulties.

Is Your Sixth Chakra Balanced?

Select the group of words that best describe you:

1. Arrogant, highly logical

2. Undisciplined, fears success, expectations are low

3. Highly intuitive, not attached to material things, may experience paranormal encounters or events

*If you chose #1, this chakra is too open, meaning it’s spinning too fast.

*If you chose #2, this chakra is blocked, meaning it’s spinning too slowly or not spinning at all.

*If you chose #3, this chakra is balanced, meaning it’s spinning at the correct speed and maintains equilibrium.

Try the Following Daily Affirmations to Help Balance Your Sixth Chakra:

(from reference below)

“I trust my feeling.”

“I choose to accept myself and others exactly the way we are.”

“The answers to all of my questions lie within me.”

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in meeting the needs of those we love, that we forget to love and honor ourselves. Take the next couple of weeks to pay attention to how your body is feeling, and determine what your sixth chakra needs are. Feel free to contact us with questions or to learn specific exercises you can do to work on balancing your sixth chakra. For those of you in the area, our Restorative Yoga Class that meets every Sunday incorporates several chakra balancing poses (see events page for more information).

In a couple of weeks, we’ll discuss the seventh chakra, the crown chakra. If you suffer from sensitivity to pollution, chronic fatigue or exhaustion, epilepsy or depression this information will be of particular interest to you.

Write in and let us know your feeling or experiences. We’d love to hear your story.

Practicing awareness

mediation AWARENESS… This is something I’ve personally been working on for awhile.

The definition of awareness is to be mindful.  How aware /mindful are you of not just the people, places and things around you but how aware are you of you?  How aware are you of what you feel and why, what your thoughts consist of on a daily basis and more importantly where do those thoughts originate from?  On a not so deep level, are you aware of how your food tastes when you sit down to eat it or is it something that you just do because you are hungry, bored or depressed?

When you take time out of your busy schedule to be calm and still (meditation) you are working on mindfulness. By being still and not surrounding yourself with television or work brought home from the office or the internet you are able to bring a sense of peace and quite to your mind, body and heart.  These 3 areas can then heal and rest and give back to you when you need answers or energy.  You begin to display a sense of calmness to the people that surround you on a daily basis and a positive attitude is felt by others that will react accordingly.

Think of it this way, have you ever been around someone who was in a bad mood? You could feel their bad energy and as a result you found your mood changing.  Have you been around a negative person who emitted such negative energy that it drained you, maybe even left you with a headache? These are examples of individuals who are not mindful and aware.

So, how does one become more mindful?  The answer is easy. Practice, practice, practice.   I would like you to try to become more mindful and aware. You will be surprised at how things will start changing for you in a positive way.  Be patient as this does not happen overnight but even 10 minutes a day will have a profound effect on you and others that surround you.  Below are some suggestions that will help you to get star

 *     Breathe- how many times do you consciously breathe throughout your day?  Taking the time to feel the cool air going in through your nose and the warm air coming out?  This       is conscious breathing. Make sure to take time throughout your day to consciously         breathe.  Breathing in the morning will set your tone for the rest of the day.

*     Eat your meals quietly and slowly- enjoy the taste of your food.

*      Take a quite walk- walk either in your neighborhood or out on a hiking trail. Get out into nature and get connected to the earth.  There is calmness to the energy that is emitted in the mornings and evenings get outside and begin to feel it.  Do not take your ipod or cell phone with you.  This is your time to connect to you.

*     Yoga, Tai Chi & Qi Gong- any one of these energy building exercises will be good for you.  These exercises are about you feeling and connecting with your own body.  Experiment with all 3 and see which one you resonate with.

*      Journal- journaling is a great way to express yourself and get your thoughts down on paper that you can come back to and read at a later date. I would suggest doing journaling in addition to one of the items listed above. Please remember reading books and watching television are not ways to become more aware.  Becoming aware is acquired by you connecting with yourself.  When you read a book you pull in your imagination and this takes the focus off of you.

I hope you find these tasks to be enjoyable and enlightening. I would like to leave you with this quote that was given to me by a client of mine: “Between the stimulus and the response lies a space and within that space, lies our freedom”.

Health & Happiness from Replenishing Soul.

Understanding the Fifth Chakra: The Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is associated with personal expression. It’s more than just the every day chatter we engage in. This chakra focuses on bringing value into communication and taking responsibility for what is being said. This chakra is also associated with hearing, because of course listening highly impacts what needs to be said.

The throat chakra is located at the level of your throat. On a physical level, this chakra governs your throat, ears, nose, mouth, neck thyroid and parathyroid glands. Physical dysfunctions that can result from an unbalanced heart chakra include sore throats, thyroid problems, asthma and neckache. Emotional problems include blocked creativity and difficulty expressing emotions.

Is Your Fifth Chakra Balanced?

Select the group of words that best describe you:

1. Talks too much or too fast

2. Holds back from speaking what’s on your mind

3. Content, good communicator

Try the Following Daily Affirmations to Help Balance Your Fifth Chakra:

(from reference below)

“I am starting to speak up for myself.”

“What I have to say is worthy of being listened to.”

“My voice is becoming stronger and more compelling.”

Sugar-sweet,delicious and causes dis-ease.

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

candy-corn-1

Did you know that the average American eats 2.5 pounds of sugar per week?

Sure, it tastes great, but here’s a list of some of the side effects of sugar.

-Sugar can lead to addiction of more sugar

-Sugar leads to disease

-Sugar can cause depression

-Sugar can lead to disruption in bowel movements

-Sugar can lead to hormonal imbalances, i.e. increasing PMS

-Sugar can lead to dizziness

-Sugar feeds cancer cells

-Sugar suppresses the immune system, making it harder for one to fight off infections.

-Sugar causes anxiety, hyperactivity, and rise in adrenaline, difficulty concentrating and moodiness in children.

-Sugar can cause your bad cholesterol and triglycerides to rise and lower your good cholesterol

-Sugar makes your saliva more acidic, therefore, leading to cavities and tooth decay

-Sugar can cause autoimmune diseases such as: arthritis and multiple sclerosis

-Sugar can cause gut inflammation and yeast overgrowth such as Candida Albicans

-Sugar can cause osteoporosis

-Sugar can increase your chance of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease

-Sugar can lead to gallstones

-Sugar can lead to poor protein absorption

-Sugar can cause food allergies

-Sugar can cause eczema

-Sugar can cause headaches including migraines

When you consume high amounts of sugar in the form of alcohol, soda, pastries, pastas, candy, white bread for an extended amount of time your blood glucose levels continue to rise and cause an elevation in insulin levels. High levels of insulin can cause :

 -High blood pressure              -Heart disease

-Weight gain/obesity                -Diabetes

-High cholesterol

-Premature aging

Wow, isn’t quite amazing how something that tastes so delicious can be so bad for you?  Please don’t wait until you’re diagnosed with a disease to start making healthy choices.  A great way to get started is when you’re at the grocery store only shop on the outside perimeter.  Why?  Because this is where all the fruits, veggies, meats, poultry, eggs etc are located.  The center aisles are the danger zone because the majority items on the shelves have been altered with chemicals and have a shelf life.  In my opinion, if you can’t pronounce the list of ingredients then it’s not a good idea to eat it.

When sugar is cut from the diet many good things begin to happen and begin to take us out of dis-ease within our own bodies.  This includes weight loss, increase in energy levels, improved mood, decreased anxiousness and the elimination of skin rashes. I challenge you to eliminate sugar for one full month and notice the great changes in your mind and body. Please note, you may feel worse before feeling better, this reaction is called the Herxheimer reaction.  This reaction is a short term response lasting from a few days to a few weeks and is a sign of the body detoxifying.  One can experience flu-like symptoms, headaches, muscle and joint aches, sore throat, sweating and other symptoms.  This response is a result of your immune system getting rid of toxins and is a positive sign.

Therefore, take the sugar challenge, come off sugar for 4 weeks and see how you feel!!!  Let us know how it goes by coming back to our blog and send us a comments.

The Chakra Energy System: The Fourth Chakra

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Understanding the Fourth Chakra: The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra connects your physical body with your higher spiritual self. This chakra allows you to relate to others with unconditional love, however it is not dependent on others (as compared to your first chakra, the root chakra). This chakra is concerned with forgiveness and accepting others with compassion. It is with this acceptance that you begin to also develop self-acceptance.

The heart chakra is located in the center of your chest. On a physical level, this chakra governs your heart, chest, lungs, and circulation. Physical dysfunctions that can result from an unbalanced heart chakra include shallow breathing, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer.  Emotional problems include co-dependency, melancholia, and fears related to feelings of loneliness, commitment and betrayal.

Is Your Fourth Chakra Balanced?

Select the group of words that best describe you:

1. Possessive, loves conditionally, witholds emotions to “punish”, overly dramatic

2. Fears rejection, loves too much, feels unworthy to receive love, self-pitying

3. Compassionate, loves unconditionally, nurturing, accepts others for who they are

Try the Following Daily Affirmations to Help Balance Your Fourth Chakra:

I am grateful for all the love that is in my life.

I am open to receive love from those around me.

I choose to let go of the hurt I feel and choose to let love in.

Just because someone doesn’t love me “enough” doesn’t mean they aren’t loving me with all that they have.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in meeting the needs of those we love, that we forget to love and honor ourselves. Take the next couple of weeks to pay attention to how your body is feeling, and determine what your fourth chakra needs are. Feel free to contact us with questions or to learn specific exercises you can do to work on balancing your fourth chakra. For those of you in the area, our Rejuvination Class that meets every Sunday incorporates several chakra balancing poses (see events page for more information).

In a couple of weeks, we’ll discuss the fifth chakra, the throat chakra. If you suffer from sore throats, neckaches, thyroid problems, or asthma this information will be of particular interest to you.

Write in and let us know your feeling or experiences. We’d love to hear your story.
